The works of Hang Chunhui, we do not see inexplicable excitement. The works reflect a cold expression and philosophy. The simple images express his philosophy of art without symbols, focusing on lakes, stones, insects and even toy bears. The slow production of the works is conducive to his artistic orientation, and his paintings show great restraint, such as the sophisticated lines of the toy bear, the combination of short lines on an iron gird, the fine curved lines on the scale of snakes. One should give special attention to the techniques of his painting Qi, Luo, and the strength it clearly evidences. Here, we find complexity in simplicity, a deep tranquility, a transformation in reproduction, and certainty in intuitiveness. The fine rendering presents themes of humanity, life and nature, and the blood stains express heaviness and seriousness.(Yang Yuepu)
