Jang Jongwan : I aim to create an image of heaven. My works bring together beautiful and optimistic images collected from various media. In our images of heaven, we usually find positive elements—flowers, wind, music and sumptuous foods. We imagine a paradise, an "ideal world". These combinations of heaven imagery exist form a cosmetic beauty in my works, never an otherworldly realm of tranquility and emptiness. "Strong negation is the manifestation of affirmation". Happiness and beauty when exaggerated are perhaps the very image of our tedious pursuits and a brilliance that can never be finally realized.
