Xiao Wenjie：Light and shadow play across the landscape, showing us dark objects. We think we see only light, but what is the existence then of shadow? There is nothing. No light is radiated. Nothing is generated. There is only this for us to contemplate: the object, the wall, the light. If all depends on the existence of others. So, if there is only this, does a shadow even exist? I seek out the self-existence of shadow in my works. My process helps me contemplate the world around me and form my own opinions. I connect the object to the shadow, so that absence and presence become one.
