Yan Bingqing: My works build off the concepts that have hardened in our mind, the idioms of experience. In my paintings, common sense becomes inverted. I will draw feet on the snake. I launch new pursuits, challenging traditional thinking. I enjoy the banal paradoxes between good and evil, between curiosity and dread, between creation and theft. As the poet Yehuda Amichai said, false happiness and joy are separated by a hair's breadth. I believe that only by undermining our common sense is it possible to truly see and experience the world.
