Zhang Zheyi: Since my solo exhibition, Vows with All Being, in 2012, I have worked to consolidate my creative pursuits of the past seven years trying to identify a clear development direction in the arc of my work. I continue to build from classical poetry exploring the intersections of the ancient and the contemporary as well as all the things that don't fit these neat categories. In 2013, I begin my new series, Tao, which explores the misunderstandings between the English and Chinese names of the work. It therefore points to a kind of hidden culture that doesn't quite fit the categories of "East" or "West". Here the concept is beyond our presumptions about culture.
