Ci Ruquan: I have always paid attention to visual symbols in ancient Chinese culture, and how to make a more in-depth and accurate interpretation of them in a contemporary context. My works attempt to examine the natural philosophy of everything in heaven and on earth from a new angle. In form they allow the abstract and the figurative to coexist, with no boundaries in techniques and materials, trying to create something neither abstract nor concrete, based on traditional and non-traditional painting language. I think in my work the only certain thing is “breath”, with the rest of the information showing a sense of alienation and diversity.
