Gao Deqiang: Art seeks the possibility of happiness, which lies not in the diving into external objects, nor in the taking pleasure from internal pondering of external items, but rather in extracting from the external world something not real, something random, shifting in forms, and to through abstraction make it eternal. Through abstraction, all disorderly and chaotic elements of the real external world can be removed, and one can begin a dialogue with the soul, approaching beauty with infinite closeness while allowing the mind to rest.
