Cai Yaling: I am very interested in the details of subjects, such as the cracks in cement, the tip of a tree branch, the wrinkles around my father's eyes… I am also exceptionally sensitive to people's moods and emotions, touched by trembling fingers, lowered eyelashes, and pursed lips… Those details and unique textures of various materials always fascinate me… I am obsessed with the folds that appear on a dampened piece of paper, the tiny green buds that emerge in early spring; I also love dry branches and my mother's white hair under her ears… I used them in my works, in a simple and pure way, to bring out their peculiar charms that touched me. My works constitute a world that I am constructing, which is full of my sentiments. For me, the creative process is most important; it bring me inner satisfaction.
