Huang Qiyou: The landscape, cranes and oriental elements I paint, coupled with the deliberately subdued colors, serve as an echo of my pursuit of "peace". Purposely evading from the hustle and bustle of contemporary life, I try to get rid of the city and adopt the "wandering of the mind" method to present the small hills where I used to play, and to tell the stories of my childhood, both holistically and fragmentally. A sense of peace and celestial (ghost) aura is thus created in my work. In contrast with the heated discussion of "contemporary art" among all others, I intend to depict the pure land in my inner heart in a mild and private way. I look for an exit for myself, a shelter for my heart, craving balance as I find myself in a noisy and changeable society.
