Liu Haichen: I research refined objects, delving deeper into them as I search for answers regarding the links or couplings between the mental and material worlds. I construct thoughts based on the visual appearance of things I encounter, and related objective science will help me form new viewpoints or thought processes. My work is about black spaces, burning black spaces. Black space gives me a warm feeling, pointing to gazing without a focus, or thinking and feeling without any specific subject or idea. One can see something not unlike the scene at the beginning of the universe. At this point in time, all non-physical things have not yet shown the energy stored within. Thus, the subsequent process takes place within the mind, where an idea is formed, and an image finally crystallizes. These crystallized images, these coagulations, always seem to have some link to black space where light and shadows dance, physical matter is interwoven with non-matter forces, and the past and present coexist.
