Wen Yipei: My works are focused on the sense of order and beauty in a space, and the psychological effects left upon the viewers. I often flip through pictures on my computer, and many times I accidently found images that suddenly attracted me. They then became different, endowed with meaning. I normally use flat and generalized language to create space, light and focal points on wood panels. The reason that I choose this kind of artistic language is that it can reduce distractions for the viewers. By reducing the visual interference of details, I allow the viewers to have a stronger psychological experience. I think my work lies between representational and abstract. I hope my works could be readable and believable, but at the same time, they are not painted as a representation of a specific scene or space, the distance of spaces and time between the images in my paintings and the images that inspired them becomes the distance between the images in the paintings and the viewers, and thus it is the space for thought which I try to create for the viewers.
