Yang Xiaofan: When I created the series "Time and Existence", I placed electrical appliances such as the modern refrigerator into life as seen in classical paintings. They are hundreds of years apart, yet in art they can meet, and reveal that apart from some outward details, human life remains basically the same. Time is a great force, first taking everything away, and then leaving everything behind. Perhaps this is the meaning of life itself. In the series "Dimensions of Time", I focus on the changes that occur overtime in a single same scene. The electrical appliances and pictures were all changing, revealing my internal experience. An individual exists alone, lonely but also independent, like the bone in my painting, toughly persisting on. As Jean-Paul Sartre said, human consciousness is the root of all existence, and the world exists because we are in it.
