Zhan Yan: No matter how people judge machines and ways that lifestyles have been changed by them, I will show their effects in my work. I am trying to rediscover the essence of industrial systems that we have forgotten in our daily lives, and remind people of how the face of the globe has been changed by machinery. I try to accomplish this by drawing with rulers and employing the concept of "measurement" found in industrial production. I aim to reveal the truth of modern life by depicting the underlying structure of objects, creating visual impressions of these "skeletons without flesh".
