Zhan Jinjuan: I experiment with displaying my internal experiences through visual elements. These internal experiences come from exploring the unknown characteristics of things I encounter. Every item or phenomenon has a potential spiritual force within, this force exceeding the thing in which it lies, exceeding even reality itself. Material things are the forms that spirits take, and the vessels through which spiritual communication can take place. I believe in the existence of something above physical reality, and this is where art finds its meaning and value. Black lines come together like strands of hair and are a direct expression my inner intuition. I find the pencil is the best tool through which to fulfill my creative mission. I hope to find a hidden path that leads to intuition, and that all things intuitive and metaphysical that walk upon it may find a nice place to rest.
