Zhu Xiaoqing: Between black and white I find infinite possibilities-real and fake, solid and hollow, dark and light, dense and scattered, distant and close, complicated and simple, Yin and Yang, strong and weak. I did a lot of experimentation in my attempts to visualize my feelings, and this experimentation gave rise to some works. My inspiration is drawn from random shapes that gradually evolve into images containing details. For example, I paint different facial expressions on randomly produced ink smudges, I make detailed drawings on crumpled papers used to make rubbings, and draw the original outlines onto rubbings of feathers. I firmly believe that there is an ambiguous zone between reality and fantasy. I am obsessed with this middle ground in the same way I love the "grey" that lies between black and white. Thanks to "grey", everything becomes changing and unpredictable.
