Son Solnip: Through a series of works involving a repeated process of inflating and removing paper screens, as a reflection of the subconscious, I have been trying to expand the range of my expression from flat surfaces into cubic space.

I convey the anxiety and confusion. I currently feel as a young artist, straddling the line between formal representation and abstraction through the transmutation of images. I express support for organic coexistence with animals in my work. They have always been objects of comfort, rather than something to be depicted as near-extinct or rare species.

My works are full of recurring patterns created through the process of repetitive “tearing-off”. The sharp and rough materials produced through this “tearing-off” and thorn-like repeated patterns that generate a sense of tension come together, as I hope they would ultimately rest in an ideal form. They become a “new species,” at once familiar but also alien, non-existent anywhere else in the world. This creative process derives from an indefinable, incomplete internal feeling, and considers the interrelationship between the psychological background of tearing-off and the abstractness of the patterns as the form and its meanings are deconstructed. The ambiguity found inthe work could be explained as being integral to a process of seeking the fundamental construct of the internal psyche.
