Bai Qingwen: Movie is a window for the eyes, through which we could experience and focus
on the complicated daily routines simultaneously happening in our life.
Those daily routines are not only expressed textually in the time line but also reflected by the visual details within the picture frame.
Besides, my script is not a typical one. It contains consciousness, emotions,
visual descriptions and fragmented words from poems or novels.
Because according to my belief, an ideal script could not be finished with just dictations,
narrations or dialogues. Sometimes there is a few dialogues in my films,
without a consistent logic or continuous texts. In particular,
texts could be completely absent in some scenes, leaving only an Observing eye in silence.
Could Text and Observation re-assemble our vision,
hearing and yearning for the faraway textual spaces? That is what I explore.
Or in other words, could we make sense out of fragmented paragraphs,
and could a paragraph be written without making any sense? ”
