Zhang Meng: Because of my studies and my work, a considerable part of my life is spent walking from one place to another. Starting from a long time ago I’ve been “forced” to experience the images, the sounds, the feelings of the Journey. My plain body blended together with the train carrying me, into one single amazing thing. The carriage, the engines, the scenery out of the window brought me into an empty, silent space, where I could find tranquility, an unusual feeling of being pulled away from this earthly world, in Italian we call it “suspension”. It’s a bit like the haze that in Chinese culture lies between physical and metaphysical. I believe this is the meaning of traveling.
