YAN: The filling of space with non-integer dimensions is a way to create fractals, and I am more concerned with naturally occurring fractals. A variety of patterns that have been extracted from nature, and not altered, are the common objects of my observation and expression. I also prefer to depict the diversity of forms and colors found in this world by using different textures and in varying styles. My works and their use of special materials not only change the way in which the audience must view them, but also display the great importance I give to the “aura” of the ordinary objects that are closely connected to my daily life. The works give the viewer a different experience when viewed from different angles, so much as to even the increase the visual and tactile sensations they convey, increasing the possibilities for multiple interpretations.
