The work “Observing Sutra” reflects the artist’s admiration for a remote life. Though he is Mongolian, his lifestyle departs dramatically from that of the ideal Mongolian. Horse racing, archery and the nomadic life that he longs for are like a kind of faith—the pure land depicted in the Buddhist sutras. It makes people yearn for it, but is difficult to reach. Solitary horsemen on their long journey, shuttling past sparse trees and distant hills, on the road, or on the way home. Nomadic, and also drifting.
