Traditional ink has natural and unadorned texture and layers, and the evolution of ink contains a powerful force. Jiang Zhaokun has used a modern understanding of the medium to add a sense of realism and scenery to his work. The integration of the new and the old forms a kind of magical illusion, which is like a black hole absorbing our thoughts. Art is a process of finding the true self, and the search for permanence in the image is always fiercer than reality. In Jiang Zhaokun’s works, we can sense the tension, the faded adornment, simplicity, and the full-bodied muse. This kind of feeling is like falling into the darkness of reality, revealing our unknown sides. Through this experience, we may find other selves through which to sense reality.
