Influenced and shaped by the rich experience of playing computer games in childhood, the artist has adopted image production methods borrowed from 3D modeling in games to represent and create objects from life. Lao Jiahui’s sophisticated and labor-intensive drawings and paintings provide form and texture to the objects in his works, by which his paintings reveal a fantastic yet familiar bewilderment. This familiarity comes from the irregular and mechanical quality of the edges of the images, mimicking blurry pixilation, as well as drawing on memories from a distant online world. In fact, Lao Jiahui’s works preserve the fading memory of characteristics of digital images in the information age, through which he plays and imagines the world of reality he confronts.
