An elm tree grows in the yard of my studio. When I moved in, it was just a trunk; nevertheless, it sprouts in spring. Two or three years later, it's growing crazily, and were so leafy that I could get no glimpse of the sky. So these branches need to be pruned every spring.

These lives stay close to me, accompanying me every day. I see the elm leaves sprouting in spring and falling in autumn; its branches are flexible and can curl, and its trunk is getting thicker and thicker. Its plasticity and its branching structure all seems inexhaustible. Where else can I find such a good sculpture material?

I tried to use it once or twice, and then ideas grew stronger and stronger, so I set about making plans, sketching and measuring. Suddenly, the landlord knocked at the door, saying that the tree was affecting the safety of the building, and even uprooted it. I watched the rest of the material, gritted my teeth, moved it back into the house and redesigned it to make them into cavities. Let it grow from outside to inside - the end of growth, the inversion of a certain space-time. It seems to be concrete, but also freehand. It's dead, but it seems to have lived in some strange way.
